Track from New film - The Wishing Well
Hey guys,
I am working on a very cool film called "The Wishing Well" written and directed by Lisa Merrill who resides in San Diego. She has a knack for creating very sweet, intimate films. This particular one has a dark underside. I am writing and recording a bluegrass/acoustic score for this one which is a departure for me. I have been doing a lot of electronica/orchestral hybrids with big drums or just plain dark ambient scores. I do have background in bluegrass having played in a great bluegrass band when I was younger. You can my traditional vocals and harmonies as well as my mandolin and slide guitar work. Have a listen. (http://www.kamakazemusic.com/lisamerrill/PrettyPolly.mp3) and let me know what you think. This is still a rough mix, but it will give you an idea of what I am shooting for. I am firing my harmonica for another. I will post the other tracks as I finish them.
I will make sure to post the link to the film when it's done.
Enjoy!

Down in flames!!!
------------------------------------------------------------------
You never think it will happen to you, but sometimes life has a way of throwing you a curve ball. We had a fire at our apartment a couple weeks ago. No one was hurt, and not a lot was damaged except some of my cool clothes and everything on the porch and the whole laundry room. It was a late Saturday night (actually Sunday morning) and I had just picked up my girlfriend from her part-time job as a nurse as Disneyland the night of the Pirates of the Caribbean special preview (at $1500 a ticket). It was really late and I decided to spin a load of laundry before going to bed. The next thing we knew, a neighbor was knocking on door and telling us that there was a fire in our laundry room. It was blazing!! We got everyone out of the apartment and all our neighbors as well. We smashed the fire extinguisher's glass and I tried to put the fire. Neighbors kept handing me more extinguishers, but it was no use. Our cell phones were inside as well as my whole studio and all our belongings. One of our neighbors called the fire department and we waiting watching the flames devour our clothes, the whole laundry and melt everything in their. The flames were licking at the living room and front bedroom and our upstairs neighbors porch. The fire department finally got there with 4 trucks and put out the fire in quick order. After about 3 hours our apartment complex put us up at a hotel all of us and the clothes we rescued from the smoky remains smelling of smoke. We ended up spending a week at an extended stay hotel and then moving into a temporary 2 bedroom apartment (all six of us) to wait for a three bedroom to open up or ours to be repaired. I am sitting here writing at my interim studio and office in the dining room. I guess the big guy was watching out for us and maybe our experience will save someone's life. it was accident, but the laundry room doubled as a storage space and really was setup precariously. The apartment complex is now inspecting all the laundry rooms for flammables and redoing the setup. Phew!!!

The Wishing Well - Film Score
In the middle of all this chaos, I am finishing up the score to
a really wonderful short film called The Wishing Well. It is a bluegrass/acoustic score using acoustic, acoustic slide, electric slide guitars, mandolin, voice and harmonica. Not my usual score, but I have played a lot of bluegrass in my past, so it was a natural fit for that side of me. Look for the film at film festivals and I am sure it will be our on Youtube and other sites. I will let you know when it's out and how to find it.

Bedroom Mixes
The new release should be out in July. I have been backed up with other projects (and fires), but all the mixes are done. I am just finishing the cover. I will most likely post some of the tracks here.
Opening Pandora's Box
There is a new and very cool internet radio site called Pandora (http://www.pandora.com) that came out of the Music Genome Project which has created an algorithm that allows you to choose what you listen to based on your preferences. I know other people have done this before, but this one is miles beyond what has come before. You sign up and click on the Create a New Station button and allows you to type in a song or band that you like and it creates a radio station of songs by that artist and similar to that artist or song. It will then show you what is playing and you give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. A thumbs down means that you will never hear that band on that station ever again. You can set up multiple radio stations as eclectic as you want and even create Quick mixes where you choose what radio stations play music randomly. My mix is crazy eclectic because I am all over the place. You can even set things up to broadcast to cell phones, share your mixes with friends and broadcast using wireless I believe. It's the only on line radio station I listen to now. Check it out!
